When we moved into our new home, I had a specific kitchen table idea in mind, and couldn’t find what I wanted from any of my favorite stores. I kept thinking it up in my head, and we ended up going 6 months without a kitchen table! (Thankfully we had barstools and could eat at the counter.. ha!) But after some time and planning, I convinced the hubs to build me the table in my head!
So here was my plan:

I did my best to lay out all the specifics for him, so he wouldn’t have to figure out all the hard stuff by himself!

So I always thought the hubs has a lot of tools, and could easily handle this project! He is very handy and has built me a lot of small things here and there, so I assumed this would be an easy undertaking! But he is just as much of a perfectionist as I am, and needed bigger and BETTER tools, who knew?
Thankfully, we have a lovely neighbor across the street who has turned his garage into a full blown, professional scale wood working shop! (the joys of retirement) and he was more than happy to help us take on this project, and show us the ropes on the fancy power tools.
So while the men got started on the project, I started selecting the stain! I have a few pieces in my den from West Elm that I knew I wanted to match. Since our home is just a full open floorpan, I needed everything to be cohesive and a similar tone of wood! Here are the WE pieces we have, and the stain I ultimately chose:

Then after a couple of weeks, and only some mild complaining from the hubs, they had a table!

So then the finishing process began – I was super nervous to stain it, because if it looked bad then all that hard work and money was for nothing! (okay dramatic.. not nothing! but still nervous nonetheless)

After about a week of finishing this beauty, we finally got it in our dining room!

I couldn’t be more excited with out it turned out! (and neither can Stella.. obviously!) I am extremely proud of all the hard work that went into this table, and am so thrilled that we did it ourselves!
(… and that we went 8 months with this big empty space, anything is possible friends)
